The Covington county seat, the city of Collins was organized in 1906. The growing town is located at the crossroads of Highways 49 and 84. Collins offers three local parks, seven baseball fields, five tennis courts, numerous Protestant churches, three schools and an exemplary wetland lagoon. Dry Creek Water Park
Dry Creek Water Park is located north of Collins just off Highway 49. Fishermen come from all around to reel in great Florida bass, catfish and crappie that are abundant in the park's 150-acre lake. Gerald McRaney Birthplace Marker
A marker commemorates the life and contributions of actor Gerald McRaney, Collins' native son. McRaney is known for his television roles in programs such as Simon and Simon, Major Dad, and Promised Land. He and his wife, actress Delta Burke, visit his hometown often. Mitchell Farms
Mitchell Farms is a working farm featuring a restored log house, smoke house, woodshed, and brick out house, and play house, other farm buildings and many antiques from the 1900s. Fresh fruit, vegetables, watermelons, green and dried peanuts are available seasonally, as well as woodcarvings by artist Nelda Mitchell. Sometimes referred to as Mississippi's only "white water," the Okatoma River challenges canoeists with a series of waterfalls and rapids. Okatoma Outdoor Post offers float trips and canoe rental.
