Mississippi Vacation Attractions: Wiggins

Mississippi Vacations, Travel and Hotels

The city of Wiggins in Stone County was incorporated in 1904 and named for pioneer Wiggins Hatten. By 1930, the county's timber resources had been severely depleted, and the once booming towns were failing rapidly. Many residents were forced to move to other areas to find work. After World War II, the timber industry began to make a comeback in Stone County, and today a large majority of the county's industries are wood product manufacturers. The area is rich in natural beauty and resources, providing ample opportunity for outdoor recreation. The lakes and rivers offer excellent fishing for bass, bream, crappie, and catfish, while the forests have an abundant supply of deer, turkey, quail, rabbits, squirrels, and birds.
